Hellooo, My name is Pilsbury ,
I am a Hermans Tortoise, which is a small
breed tortoise and I would have originally lived in the Mediterranean or north
Africa. I have been at the sanctuary 10 years and was the first tortoise they
rescued.
I could be as old as 100 but they think I am more like 70 or 80
years old. I'm in the prime of my life for a tortoise. They have had lots and
lots of people would like to rehome me because I am a very healthy (well I am
now) mature Female Hermans Tortoise. Apparently I would be a perfect breeding
specimen, but North Wales Reptile and Raptor Sanctuary believe that I deserve
better than being sent out to be a breeding unit and I am kept in a different
part of the Sanctuary because I am also worth stealing, to a person who just
wants to sell me as a constant mother I could be sold for over £1000.
Although this money could help other animals they will not exploit me here and
won't allow others to do the same.
It was long time before I wanted
to eat by myself. For over a year Jane fed me by hand. I didn't want to eat
because I had been kept in a Garden for about 50 years
Some times I
go out to work and tell people how long tortoises live, because most people
don't know. The work is not very hard because they always take a UV lamp (which
is lovely and warm), a private run for me and plenty to eat and drink. They let
people look at me and talk about me but the Sanctuary staff shout if people
stroke me, quiet right too, as you wouldn't let anybody and everybody touch you
and I don't like it either.
In the winter I am fed good quality
lettuce (my favourite is the bistro mix from Sainsbury's), and the rest of the
year the staff collect garden weeds which are wonderful, I quite like
strawberries but I'm not allowed too many. As I am now well I always hibernate
for 12 weeks in the wine cooler and I feel much better for it.
Thank
you for reading my letter. If you would like to sponsor me please tell North
Wales Reptile and Raptor Sanctuary, by filling in the form below and Email it
to Jane@nwrr.co.uk and she will tell you how I'm doing.
Lots Of
Love
